Professor and Former Department Head

Dr. Shane retired from the Department of Economics on December 31, 2007, but continues to work within the University setting.  He accompanied a group to China in the spring of 2008.

Richard (Dick) Shane earned degrees in Agricultural Economics from South Dakota State University - Bachelors; University of Arizona - Masters; and Washington State University - Doctorate. He joined the faculty at SDSU in 1977 on a Research/Teaching appointment. He has held both full time nine and twelve month contracts in Teaching and Extension, respectively. He served as the Department Head from July,1996. through December, 2007. His areas of interest are management and marketing. His short term appointments include a three month Market Advisor position in Poland in 1993. He and his family lived in Bavaria, Germany for three years while he served in the U.S. Army from 1971-1974.
