Special Accomodations for Testing
|
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, students with documented disabilities are eligible to test individually in the Academic Evaluation and Assessment Office.
If students are interested, they must first contact Nancy Crooks, Coordinator of Disability Services, at 605-688-4504. The Disability Services office is located in the Wintrode Sucess Center. Documentation must be provided to and approved by the Disability Services Office before testing arrangements can be made. Testing accommodations may include extended-time testing, large print test booklet, reader, or Braille.
Accommodations Approved
Once accommodations are approved, appointments are made with the Academic Evaluation and Assessment Office based on testing room availability.
Students authorized to use special accommodations testing will be welcomed with respect, sensitivity and prompt responses. Their use of the services will be kept confidential. Every attempt will be made to honor their request for testing space as close to the time requested as possible. Space limitations create scheduling problems during peak examination times like mid-term and finals week. Adjustments may be necessary to accommodate testers at alternate times. Special Accommodation testers will be given priority over non-SDSU testers.
* Readers will read tests verbatim without clarifying or explaining content.
* Proctors will not respond to questions about intent of instructor or meaning of content.
* Proctors will not help student with technical procedures when that is the skill being tested (i.e. computer science).
Special Accommodations Testing Policies |
Students are responsible to contact AEA to schedule testing at least 24 hours ahead of requested testing time. |
Tests will be supervised by secretaries, directors, coordinators, managers, or librarians. Under no circumstances will the test be proctored by work-study or undergraduate students. |
Examinations will be delivered to AEA at least 15 minutes before scheduled testing and picked up from AEA within 24 hours after test completion. AEA staff will be responsible for ensuring test security from examination delivery to pick up. |
If an instructor knows a quiz will be given in class the following day, a call should be placed to AEA to schedule special acoommodations testing for the quiz at the same time as in-class testers. |
To ensure student examinations actually measure student knowledge, skills, and attitudes, AEA staff/examination proctors will not provide any assistance that would influence student performance in the following areas: |
If a student wishes to test at a different time than the rest of the class, or interrupt a block of testing time to resume testing later, the instructor should authorize these arrangements and inform AEA staff PRIOR to the test administration. |
