SDSU has been designated a national testing center for CLEP. This enhances the CLEP exam transferability of students tested at SDSU. Click on the left panel for CLEP Examinations for which SDSU and all other South Dakota regental institutions will grant credit, credit hours earned, and required or cutoff scores.
Since September 12, 2001, the CLEP examinations are administered on computer. CLEP began nation-wide Computer Based Testing (CBT) summer 2001. Note the type of test (paper or CBT) that you have taken as the score cut-offs are different on some of the examinations.
The National CLEP exams are administered twice per month, usually the first and third Thursday, at 9:00 a.m., 12 noon, and 2:30 p.m. Test dates and times may be altered depending on space available. CLEP exams are national tests which can be taken at any national testing center.

Those wishing to take a CLEP exam must register ($15 fee) for the exam with the Academic Evaluation and Assessment Office at least one week prior to taking the exam. A registration form is available at the bottom of this page. Your test date and time will be confirmed when you register.
Costs are $70 per exam, plus the $15 registration fee.
CLEP exams are 90 minutes in length and consist of multiple-choice questions. Sample tests are available upon request at the Academic Evaluation and Assessment Office. CLEP exams may be taken again if results do not meet required scores. Examinees must wait six months before attempting the same examination.
Scores are shown on the computer screen after the completion of the CBT administration. A paper copy will be available the following day in the AEA Office. Once a passing score is achieved, the student may pay a $7.50 per credit recording fee and complete an "Application for Placement Credit" form in the Academic Evaluation and Assessment Office to have the credits placed on their academic transcript.
University CLEP Policies
A grade given at, or transferred to, this university may not be raised by examination for university credit.
