AP Institutes - Summer 2008

The South Dakota Department of Education is funding teachers in public school districts across the state to attend AP (Advanced Placement) Institutes in order to become qualified to teach AP courses. The qualifying AP Institutes offered at South Dakota State University in Brookings are listed below.

Funding to attend these AP Institutes includes:

Stipend -- $50 per day (5 days = $250)
Housing -- $21 per night (Sunday to Thursday)
Meals -- $26 per day (Sunday evening through Friday noon)


The school district is to provide the Department of Education with a list of the teachers authorized to attend an AP Institute. Microsoft Word and .pdf files are provided below for this use.

Follow these steps for registration and participation in an AP Institute:
  • Enroll in the AP Institute with the appropriate institution, paying all appropriate fees.
  • Ask your school to complete and return the course registration authorization (Word or pdf file above) to the SD Department of Education.
  • Upon completion of all five days of the AP Institute, submit your housing and meal bills to the school business manager.

    Additional information and timelines:
  • The Course Registration Authorization must be sent from the school district to the SD Department of Education.
  • Upon receipt of the course registration form, an award letter will be sent to the school along with documents that must be filed with the Department of Education by the business manager upon completion of the institute.
  • Documentation for payment/reimbursement must be submitted to the SD Department of Education by the school business manager prior to August 1st. Any documentation submitted after this date will not be accepted.
