Carol J. Peterson

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Vice President Peterson received her Ph.D. in Higher Education and her B.S. and M.Ed in Nursing Education from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota. She served as Dean of the College of Nursing at South Dakota State University from 1977-1987 and was appointed Vice President for Academic Affairs in 1987.
The role of the Provost and Vice President involves overall responsibility for all academic affairs at SDSU, including academic planning; academic quality, assessment, and evaluation; curriculum management; academic budget development and monitoring; academic grant proposal development; university representative on the System Academic Affairs Council in system-wide planning and operations; facilitation of academic related fund raising. In the absence of the President, the Provost and Vice President serves as Acting President.
